Copy Edit
Copy editing is a process of editing to ensure consistency, correctness, and completeness. It is akin to going through your manuscript with a fine-toothed comb to pick up on any errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation, fact checking, and continuity. This is my favourite kind of editing! Let’s polish your manuscript up so it’s ready to get published.
Beta Read
Many people have some confusion on the distinction between editing and beta reading. Beta reading involves reading a completed manuscript not for errors, but for impact. Do the characters come across the way you want them to? Does the story hit the emotional beats you wish? A beta read can confirm your manuscript is ready for readers, or can outline what needs to happen to get it to the finish line.
Proofread
Proofreading is a final go-over of your manuscript in its completed form. A proofread will pick up on any errors that the copy edit didn’t catch (even editors aren’t 100% perfect all the time!) and any formatting issues.
